Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary has a heartwarming success story to share about a dog named Ziggy. When Ziggy was first rescued, he was in a pitiful state. He was weak, malnourished, and suffering from severe mange, with maggots eating him alive. The sanctuary staff couldn’t even get near him at first due to his aggressive behavior, but they managed to sedate him and remove the majority of the maggots.

Day 3 of Ziggy’s journey marked the start of his mange treatment with NexGard, which lasted for 10 days. By Day 4, Ziggy was already enjoying his Sunday lunch, and by Day 7, he was drinking water and getting hydrated, which was good for his skin. By Day 10, Ziggy was already showing signs of improvement, with his appetite returning and him becoming less aggressive.

As time passed, Ziggy continued to recover and trust the staff at the sanctuary. By Day 20, he was even allowing the veterinarian to examine him. By Day 25, Ziggy was free from quarantine and becoming more and more friendly every day. Despite a slight cough, which was easily treated with medication, Ziggy was on the road to recovery.

However, Ziggy still had recurring skin issues and didn’t like being picked up or washed, and the staff hadn’t yet tried to leash train him. Despite these challenges, a year later, Ziggy was unrecognizable from the dog he was when he was first rescued. He was healthy, friendly, and ready to be adopted into a loving forever home.

The transformation of Ziggy is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff at Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary, as well as the resilience of animals like Ziggy. Thanks to their efforts, Ziggy went from being a sick and abused dog to a happy and healthy companion, ready for a new life filled with love and care.
