Kaye Fiorello was traveling on Tepessee Highway on a hot day when he noticed the highway patrol officer pull over. I really thought about it at the time, but it ended up being a really wise statement.
Before setting off on his way, Fiorello stopped to examine something more closely.
Fiorello told the Dodo that “about a mile ahead, this little dog’s fear appeared on the side of the road.” It looked like it had been there for some time.
Fiorello knew best where to find help for the abandoned dog.
Fiorello half-turned and returned the way he had seen, remembering the police officers he had seen. She hid behind him and told him about the dog, realizing that he was the only one other than the police had changed their lives forever.
“He asked her where she was and ran after her,” Fiorello explained. “I followed it, pointed out the area.”
When he arrived, I noticed that the dog seemed injured and frightened. He was initially suspicious of the officer’s approach, but he offered him water and food in an effort to earn his money. But it didn’t stop there.
He sat next to the puppy after calling animal control for help, holding onto an umbrella to protect her from the sun.
Fiorello was equally touched by his devotion to the dog.
“He told me, ‘I’ll stay here until she trusts me,’” Fiorrello said, adding that the dog sensed the police officer’s friendly nature. “He seemed to give the sigh of a satisfied dog.” And those eyes egap like day and night. I made contact. It’s quite effective. “I was crying tears of joy for that girl.”
And it turns out that this relationship would not be transitory.
Fiorello had to pay his way before help arrived, but later learned that the dog had been rescued safely and was being treated at the vet. She was afraid of breaking her hip, but that was something she would have to deal with alone.
For that stretch, the officer would also be on his side.
One week after being found on the side of the road, injured and unsafe, the puppy was found home. The officer made the decision to retain her permanently.
“Adopted! I finally got it today! Fiorello explained. “This man is Princess and will be home in a couple of weeks, maybe two weeks after the vet.”
Princess’s happy ending could not have been more perfect for Fiorello, as his desire to find treatment for the injured puppy resulted in the puppy’s entire life changing forever.
“It seemed like it had to be like that,” he explained.
