In Hindsight: The Controversial Decision of Signing a Contract with CR7

Giuseppe Marotta was Juventus’ director when the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018. At that time, Ronaldo had just won another Champions League title with Real Madrid and was ready to leave the Spanish team. Juventus, with the goal of winning the C1 Cup championship, considered signing Ronaldo a business decision, as well as bringing in an excellent player.

However, Ronaldo’s time at Juventus did not go as planned and he left the club in the summer of 2021 following the return of Max Allegri as coach. CR7’s departure caused Juventus to face financial challenges and there were rumors about the club still not paying Ronaldo’s full salary.
