The robust and sizeable kingfisher boasts vibrant colors of blue, black, and white. Its natural habitat is primarily found in the mid-story and subcanopy of dense woodlands, rainforests, and gallery forests. The bird tends to be shy and can be detected by its distinct call, which begins with an opening whistle, followed by a succession of “chiew” notes that descend ѕɩіɡһtɩу after a brief pause. Additionally, its larger size, black patch on the back, blue breast, black line behind the eуe, and preference for denser environments distinguish it from its counterpart, the Woodland Kingfisher.
