The Kansas City Chiefs are hearing the word dynasty often due to their dominance over the past few seasons. Three Super Bowl titles in five years is a triumph not many teams have experienced in the league’s history, and it hasn’t made their front office’s job easier.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach addressed the team’s offseason plans during his 2024 NFL Combine press conference on Tuesday. He gave media members an understanding of the toll success can play on the team’s plans in free agency, making the prospect of keeping a title team together challenging.

“That’s always a stress; you’d like to be able to pay all the guys,” Veach explained. It’s tough because the more you win, the more you have to pay players, and obviously, we have this amount of success; you’re paying a lot of players a lot of money. And then it’s equally as tough because you’re drafting late.

“So, there are challenges. We’ll go through them and always put our best foot forward. (We) certainly want to do what we can to try to keep both of those players, and that’s going to be our goal and intent. Hopefully, we’ll be able to figure something out. But every free agency is different, unique, and crazy.”

Veach refers to All-Pro Chris Jones and top cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, each prepared to be unrestricted free agents. As the team continues to make history and win titles, players will demand more money for their incredible work, creating an internal front-office decision on who to keep moving forward.

Said Veach: “We have one (Franchise) tag, and I anticipate probably using it to help us. But I think our goal is to try to get both those players done and then work down the rest of our roster.”

There is a possibility of either Jones or Sneed being signed to a franchise tag. Jones recently became eligible for that type of contract shortly after the Super Bowl, adding more wiggle room in Veach’s negotiations.
