Real Madrid Closely Eyeing 22-year-old Former Winger, Potential €30 Million Reunion

Real Madrid has started including a buyback provision or retaining 50% of a player’s rights in recent years when they sell one of their talented young players, giving them some measure of control over the player’s future.

The Merengues used the same approach this past summer while saying farewell to promising possibilities like Sergio Arribas and Carlos Dotor, among others.

With the use of a similar clause, Los Blancos were able to re-sign Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano for merely €5 million, and Real Madrid might employ the same strategy to re-sign another player they had previously sold.

Tracking Takefusa Kubo for Real Madrid

Indeed, according to SPORT, Real Madrid is keeping a close eye on Takefusa Kubo’s growth and progress at Real Sociedad and may eventually contemplate a transfer for him.

Kubo was first acquired by Los Blancos in the summer of 2019 and was repeatedly loaned out before the Spanish club parted ways with the Japanese winger permanently in 2022.

For a cost of €6 million, the Spanish capital club sold Kubo to Real Sociedad while keeping 50% of the player’s rights.

The Japanese international has established himself as a crucial part of Imanol Alguacil’s team since joining Sociedad, scoring 12 goals and dishing out ten assists in 48 games.

Kubo has been on fire in the new season, registering three goals and an assist in the first four La Liga games, and as such Real Madrid have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress.

As per the report, Sociedad have inserted a €60 million release clause in Kubo’s contract.

Considering that Real Madrid still own 50% of the winger’s rights, it would enable them to sign him for €30 million – an option that they are not ruling out at this point.

Kubo attracted interest from several clubs this past summer, including Napoli, but there was nothing concrete.

If he continues on the same upward trajectory, more suitors could line up, possibly including Real Madrid.
