Mothers, be it human or animal, will go above and beyond to ensure the safety of their young ones. This strong maternal instinct is crucial for survival. Imagine a world where mothers didn’t care for their babies – it’s not something we even want to think about! It’s heartwarming to witness this unconditional love in action, and one particular story involving a dog mom showcases just how far a mother will go to protect her offspring. Karlee, a dog rescue volunteer, was on a mission to locate a litter of puppies she had been informed about.
While on Jeju Island in South Korea, Karlee was informed about a group of puppies who were located beneath a stack of wood scraps. Once the locals found out that this debris would soon be removed and destroyed, the situation became critical. Given the vastness of the area, a group effort was necessary to locate the pups before it was too late. Upon arriving at the construction site, the team set up traps furnished with nourishment and hydration.
The objective was to capture the puppies and ensure their safety. Karlee used food and water, which are scarce for stray dogs, to lure them out from the huge woodpile and into their custody. She visited every day during her lunch break and after work in hopes of catching the pups. Finally, after three or four days, they emerged but were initially cautious. Nevertheless, they were successfully rescued. However, the work wasn’t over yet. Puppies of this age commonly live with their mother, who could be located anywhere in the vicinity. Even though the team had confined the puppies, finding their mother remained a challenge.
Every day, the mama dog would venture out in search of food and resources, and it was uncertain how far her wanderings would take her. The team spent days scouring the area for any sign of her presence. Eventually, they caught a glimpse of her, but rescuing her proved to be a challenging task.
Despite being spotted, progress towards rescuing the mama dog was slow. Her street-smart instincts made her extremely skittish, and she kept her distance from humans, even when tempted with treats and food. The situation was dire since the island was remote, and conventional trapping methods were not feasible.
As a last resort, the team tried a different approach.
All their efforts to provide food, shelter, and cages were futile. Their only hope was the puppies, and they came up with a clever plan. They loaded the puppies onto a truck and headed towards Karlee’s house. As they drove, the mama dog chased after the truck for the full 10-minute journey!
The mother canine ran after the vehicle until it reached Karlee’s residence, never losing sight of it. It took some time before she felt at ease to enter the house, but once she did, everything went smoothly.
